A pensioner from Cambridge who was jailed for a string of rape and sexual offences against four young girls has had his prison term increased.

83 year old Sazzad Miah denied any wrong doing but was jailed in June for 18 years 18 sexual offences including rape and indecent assault.

Cambridge Crown Court heard how he abused one girl over a period of 12 years between 1992 and 2004, another over eight years between 2004 and 2012, when two were as young as 4, another 5-years-old and the other 10.

Prosecutors appealed his sentence saying it was too lenient- judges increased his jail term by a further seven years- from 18 to 25 years, with one year on licence.

"The victims in this investigation have been extremely courageous and I am pleased that they were able to disclose the horrific abuse they have suffered at the hands of Miah.

This investigation has been exceedingly complex and challenging on many levels. Officers have worked tirelessly to support these very vulnerable victims of serious sexual offences.

Child abuse is totally unacceptable and we will support victims of such crimes and work tirelessly to bring the offenders to justice."
