A woman has been jailed for 32 months for stealing from an elderly woman in Peterborough who had invited her into her home and offered her a cup of coffee.

24-year old Marie Jurcikova and her accomplice, 25-year old Marek Gabor, knocked on the door of the 86-year old woman's home in Woodston, Peterborough in December 2017, asking to use the toilet.

Gabor went to use the toilet and stole the woman's purse, while Jurickova stood and drank a cappuccino with the 86-year old.

The pair then said they were going outside for a cigarette, before fleeing the scene.

Police found DNA on the coffee cup and matched it to Jurcikova. As she was arrested police recognised Gabor from the description given by the elderly woman and arrested him too.

“Jurcikova and Gabor purposefully targeted and exploited an elderly woman. This sentence shows the tough stance the criminal justice system takes on burglary and will hopefully deter others from doing the same.”

– PC Martin George, Cambridgeshire police

Jurcikova, of Oundle Road, Woodston, Peterborough, pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced for the burglary and for failing to surrender to police.

Gabor, also of Oundle Road, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years, with an automatic deportation order, in July.
