In the latest incident now being treated as suspicious four families were left homeless after the blaze spread through six houses at Felmore in Basildon.
Now locals say more needs to be done to protect the mainly wooden houses and flats from fire.
The council say they have made safety improvements, but tonight one expert described them as tinder boxes.
