Thunderstorms and torrential rain have swept across the region producing spectacular lightning shows.

Flood warning for River Nene near Peterborough

A Flood Warning has been issued by the Environment Agency for the North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.

Due to relatively high river flows and rising tides, river levels are likely to affect North Bank Road over tide lock period at approximately 09:30 hrs on Thursday and for some time before and after.

Fledgling tornado spotted in Suffolk

Wednesday evening's thunderstorms have spawned some would-be tornadoes in the Anglia region. This video was taken by Todd Unsworth at Red Lodge between Mildenhall and Newmarket in Suffolk at around 6pm.

It shows a funnel cloud developing from the base of a thunderstorm cloud. Only if the twister reaches the ground does it becomes a tornado.

Thunderstorms hit Anglia region

Thunderstorms hit many parts of the Anglia region on Wednesday evening with torrential downpours.

The white areas on the rainfall radar image indicate rain falling at a rate of 32 mm per hour or more.
