The Bishop of Norwich has written to his Diocese in the wake of the General Synod vote on Women Bishops.
In the letter, which can be read in full here, he says: "Hardly anyone has considered the result good news for the Church of England."
The female Archdeacon of Norwich Cathedral has described the vote rejecting the introduction of women bishops as "devastating".
The narrow defeat of the draft measure has plunged the Church of England into crisis. But not all churchgoers in the East are disappointed.
Women make up a third of the clergy in the Church of England. The church's governing body The General Synod has been voting on the issue today.
