Administrators for electrical retailer Comet have announced the company's distribution centre in Harlow in Essex will close this Friday. Deloitte also say a further 125 Comet stores are set to close although that process may be delayed if a suitable buyer emerges.
Harlow MP Rob Halfon says the closure of the Harlow distribution centre means 80 home delivery staff have lost their jobs and a further 65 transport and logistic jobs are at risk in his constituency. Today he called on the Prime Minister to ask the Business Secretary to investigate the matter.
Staff at stricken electricals chain Comet have been dealt a pre-Christmas blow after administrators announced a further 125 stores will close along with a distribution centre in Essex.
Deloitte also plans to close the company's distribution centre in Harlow this Friday and will cut back office functions at Rickmansworth, Hull and Clevedon.
Deloitte said it would only keep the remaining 70 stores open until all remaining stock was sold.
