Bedfordshire Police have released CCTV footage of the moments before and after a pensioner was stabbed to death at his home in Kempston.
His female partner was stabbed in the arm as she tried to fight off his attackers. One man has been arrested and bailed, but detectives say their investigation is far from over.
Bedfordshire Police have released CCTV footage of the moments before and after a man was stabbed to death at his home in Kempston.
One man has been arrested and bailed but police are now renewing their appeal for witnesses.
Detectives from the Major Crime Unit are still appealing for witnesses in connection with the murder of a Kempston man at his home in Vineyard Way on Tuesday evening.
Turkish-born Serafettin Demirsay – known as Sharif – was stabbed when three men forced their way into his home when he answered a knock at the door at about 9.30pm on Tuesday. A post mortem carried out yesterday showed he died of a stab wound to the chest.
A 68 year old woman, who lived with Sharif, was also injured with relatively superficial knife wounds which were treated in hospital. She is now being looked after by her family and supported by police officers from the MCU. Some money and jewellery were stolen from the house.
A man who was arrested on Wednesday morning from a house in Cotton End just outside Bedford has now been released on conditional police bail, pending further enquiries.
Det Chief Insp Tim Redfearn, of the Beds, Cambs and Herts MCU, stressed that the enquiry is far from finished and appealed to anyone who may have been in the area at the time to make contact with the enquiry team.
“This was a terribly distressing attack on a defenceless man in his own home, in front of his distraught partner,” he said. “We are trying to piece together exactly what happened prior to the stabbing and it is still not at all clear what the motive for this attack was.”
“What we do know is that three men were seen on CCTV approaching the house at about 9.30pm, dressed in dark clothes and with hoods covering their faces. Someone knocked on the door, prompting Sharif to open it.
"Once the men were inside, they launched a violent attack on him and his partner, before running off and turning right, away from the house.“While we have arrested a man, this enquiry is not solved and we do want to hear from anyone else who can help with information about this incident.”

Bedfordshire Police are renewing their appeal for witnesses after two people were stabbed earlier this week. Police were called to a house in Vineyard Way in Kempston on Tuesday night.
A man and woman, both in their sixties, were taken to hospital with stab wounds. The man died shortly afterwards.
Police investigating the death of a man in Kempston last night have arrested a 24 year-old man on suspicion of murder.
The suspect was arrested this morning at an address in Gorse Farm Road in Cotton End in connection with the incident that occurred in Vineyard Way at 9.40pm.
Emergency services were called to the victim's house following reports that a man and woman had been stabbed. They were both taken to Bedford South Wing Hospital but the man was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. The woman suffered superficial injuries and remains in hospital receiving treatment.
– Detective Chief Inspector Tim Redfearn, Bedfordshire Police
"We have launched a murder investigation and a team of detectives is now piecing together exactly what happened at the home in Vineyard Way last night.
"This is obviously an extremely difficult time for the victim's family but our officers are working with them to establish what happened prior to the stabbing and who may be responsible for this.
"I would urge anyone who may have seen the incident itself or anyone with even the smallest piece of information to come forward and speak with the police in complete confidence."
