Breaking ground marks start of Ipswich Tidal Barrier

The Mayor of Ipswich officially opened the Ipswich Tidal barrier this morning with a traditional breaking the ground ceremony. When finished the barrier will reduce the risk of flooding to 1,608 homes and 422 businesses.

Ipswich Mayor and other partners declare ground open

A 38 million pound project to protect Ipswich from flooding began this morning. A traditional breaking the ground ceremony has been taking place on the construction site of the Ipswich tidal barrier.

The scheme is designed to reduce the risk to thousands of homes and businesses as well as the Suffolk County Council offices and the main fire station.
