Norfolk Police have said a post mortem examination is to take place this evening on the body of a woman found in a university lake.

Police were called to the University of East Anglia, in Norwich this morning. A local angler spotted a body floating face-down in the water.

Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene along with colleagues from the fire service and ambulance and the body of a woman was recovered from the water shortly before 9.30am this morning Thursday 1 August 2013.

Investigations are continuing to determine the identity of the deceased however officers can confirm she is not believed to be a missing person from Norfolk.

The woman was discovered as wearing what has been described by detectives as 'day wear'. No further description is available at this time.

University body: All staff and students accounted for

Police have confirmed the body found in a lake in the University of East Anglia was that of a young woman.

In a later statement, the UEA said:

As far as we are able to, we have accounted for staff, students and visitors on summer schools and conferences, and we have not been made aware of anybody reported missing.Swimming is strictly prohibited in the Broad. There are 18 warning signs positioned around it at regular intervals, along with 11 lifebelts which are checked every two weeks.The area around the UEA Broad is also patrolled regularly by estates and security staff."

A body found in a lake at the University of East Anglia was that of a woman.

Officers were called to the lake at the University of East Anglia at 8.40am today after an angler reported seeing the body.

Norfolk Police have not commented on whether the woman may have been swimming in the lake.

A police spokesman said: "Initial inquiries have been carried out with UEA and at this stage it is believed all students have been accounted for."

Police seal off body find site

Police were called to the University of East Anglia in Norwich at 8.40am today following reports a body had been found in the lake on the site.

A Norfolk Police spokesman said: "Emergency services are on scene and the area has been sealed off."

The force has not yet confirmed the age or gender of the person involved.
