Police are hunting for a gunman after two people were shot and injured yesterday afternoon. Essex Police want to talk to Francis O'Donoghue in connection with the double shooting.

The hunt for a gunman wanted in connection with the attempted murder of two neighbours in Essex has intensified following several sightings.

Police are "strongly urging" Francis O'Donoghue to hand himself in following the attack at a travellers' site off Goatswood Lane in Navestock on August 27.

Two men in their 20s, and from the Brentwood area, were shot in the legs and chest. Following surgery, both have now been discharged from hospital.

Officers have received a number of calls from people living in west and south Essex, south Hertfordshire and London follow police appeals.

Supt Trevor Roe, of Essex Police, said: "Francis O’Donoghue was definitely at the site when the shooting took place so our primary focus is to find him and take him off the streets."

He urged anyone who knew him to avoid him "purely because he is in possession of a handgun”.

Police searching for a gunman who is on the run after two people were shot in Essex have expanded their search.

Francis O'Donoghue has been wanted by Essex Police since Tuesday after two people suffered non-fatal gunshot wounds at a travellers' site off Goastwood Lane in Navestock.

Officers have now contacted neighbouring police forces and are focusing their search on travellers' sites in Hertfordshire and London.

Superintendent Trevor Roe said: "We have taken several witness statements which all suggest that Francis O'Donoghue was at the site at the time of the shooting and so our focus is primarily now on finding him.

"This attack was the culmination of an ongoing neighbour feud which began outside a shop in Harold Wood earlier that Tuesday afternoon.

"We are working with all UK police forces, and especially the Metropolitan Police and Hertfordshire, to ensure they keep a look out for Francis.

"Again, we would urge anyone who knows him to avoid him purely because he is in possession of a handgun and those who come into contact with him should call us immediately.

"There is nothing though to suggest that people in the wider community are at risk of being injured."

Police believe O’Donoghue could be in Hertfordshire or London where it is thought the 27-year-old glazier may be hiding out with friends or relatives.

Francis O’Donoghue is urged to hand himself in to officers following the shooting on farmland off Goatswood Lane in Navestock at 3:30pm on Tuesday, August 27.

Two men are still being treated for gunshot wounds to the legs and chest in hospital under armed police guard and are currently in a stable condition.

Detectives are looking for 27-year-old Francis O’Donoghue who is believed to have been at his home on the farm during the time of the shooting.

"Our initial enquiries suggest that the two victims and the gunman know each other, but we don’t know the reason behind the attack.

"We would urge people who know Francis to avoid him purely because he is in possession of a firearm and those who come into contact with him should call us immediately. There is nothing though to suggest that anyone else is at risk of being injured.”
