Mixed views on e-cigarette regulation plans

Campaigners have travelled to Brussels today to oppose plans to regulate e-cigarettes in a similar way to medical products.

Producers including Peterborough-based E Cig Wizard are against the proposals, which they say are unnecessary.

But Martin Dockrell from campaign group ASH - Action on Smoking and Health - said regulation was needed.

Campaigners oppose plans for European Directive on e-cigarettes

Campaigners have travelled to Brussels today to oppose plans to regulate e-cigarettes in a similar way to medical products.

If the directive is given the go ahead, it could mean a nervous future for producers of electronic cigarettes including Peterborough-based E Cig Wizard.

East of England MEP Vicky Ford was due to meet with the campaigners who say the measure would be unnecessary.

Ben Potter, director of E Cig Wizard, said the e-cigarettes were not designed to help people stop smoking and were purely an alternative to traditional cigarettes.
