Basildon Hospital is to join forces with the Royal Free London Trust under tough new plans outlined by the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt.
The Essex hospital was found to be one of 11 hospitals across the country to be placed in special measures after the Keogh review into high mortality rates.

Basildon Hospital is to be paired with a hospital in London under 'tough' new plans announced by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to turn around hospitals under special measures.
In the wake of the scandal over hospital standards in Staffordshire, 14 NHS Trusts with high mortality rates, including Basildon, were put under special measures.
Under Mr Hunt's plans announced today elite hospitals will be handed contracts to help turn around their struggling counterparts. The Royal Free London Hospital trust will be paired with Basildon.
The first measures announced today by Basildon are the recruitment of 200 extra nurses and building a new respiratory ward.
