Man to appear in court over aircraft bomb hoax

A man is due to appear in court today charged with making a bomb hoax which led to an aircraft being diverted to Stansted Airport last week.

Alan Patey, 49, of no fixed address, was charged yesterday and will appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court.

A 57-year-old man, who was also arrested on suspicion of endangering an aircraft, remains on police bail until tomorrow.

The plane from Sri Lanka was carrying more than two hundred passengers and crew.

It was heading to Heathrow when it was diverted to Stansted.

No one was injured in the incident.

Man released on bail after plane drama

One of the men arrested by police on suspicion of endangering an aircraft following an incident at Stansted Airport on Friday has been released on bail. The 57-year-old has to report back to police on Friday

A 49-year-old man also arrested on suspicion of endangering an aircraft is still being treated in hospital.
