The best places to live in East Anglia

Uttlesford in Essex has been named as the best rural area in Britain and 11 of the top 20 are also in the Anglia region.

East dominates new list of Britain's best places to live

A survey has confirmed what most already knew - that the Anglia region has some of the finest rural areas to live in in the entire country.

Eleven districts in the Anglia region are among the top twenty places in the Halifax Quality of Life survey. Uttlesford in Essex, centred on the town of Saffron Walden, comes top.

The survey shows people living in these places are some of the best paid, the most likely to have a job, live in larger houses and suffer less crime.

Uttlesford in Essex tops quality of life survey

The Uttlesford district of Essex has been named as Britain's most desirable rural area to live in the annual 'rural quality of life survey' carried out by Halifax.

The district includes the historic towns of Saffron Walden, Thaxted and Great Dunmow as well as Stansted Airport.

South Northamptonshire ranked second while East Hertfordshire and South Cambridgeshire were also in the top ten.
