Norfolk Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a woman in her 80s at a care home in Norwich.

Police in Norwich say the death of a woman who died in a care home appears to be consistent with choking

A Home Office post mortem examination has been completed but further tests will now be needed before a formal cause of death can be confirmed.

Police say the results won't be available for several weeks.

The woman, aged in her 80s, died at Heathcote residential home on Unthank Road in Norwich at around 10pm.

A care worker, in her 50s, from the Hethersett area, who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Investigations continue into unexplained death of woman in her 80s

Police continue to investigate the unexplained death of a woman in her 80s at Heathcote residential home on Unthank Road in Norwich.

A Home Office post mortem to ascertain cause of death is due to take place on Friday 2 May 2014 at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

"It must be stressed we are at the very early stages of our investigation and are currently conducting preliminary enquiries. There are a number of potential outcomes and we will not be speculating further on the circumstances at this time. Clearly, the results of the post mortem will be a significant factor in this investigation.”

A number of rooms within the property remain sealed off as enquiries continue.

A care worker, in her 50s, from the Hethersett area, has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody.

Woman arrested following sudden death in Norwich

Norfolk Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a woman in her 80s at a care home in Norwich.

Her death and the events leading up to it were first reported to police at around 10pm on Wednesday 30 April 2014 and a number of rooms within the property have been sealed off as enquiries continue.

A woman in her 50s from the Hethersett area, who was known to the victim, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
