Memorial to helicopter crash victims unveiled 33 years on

A memorial to 13 people killed when their helicopter crashed into the North Sea has finally been unveiled - 33 years after the tragedy. The aircraft had been travelling from a gas rig to Bacton gas terminal in North Norfolk on August 13 1981 when its pilot sent a distress message to report an engine failure.

A memorial has been unveiled in Great Yarmouth to remember the 13 men who died when a helicopter carrying off shore gas rig workers crashed off the North Norfolk coast 33 years ago.

Relatives of one of the men who died have been campaigning for years for a lasting tribute to the lives lost in the 1981 tragedy.
