A man has died after police negotiators in Norfolk spent 14 hours talking to him.

The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission following the death at Quarry Road in Queens Hills, Costessey, near Norwich.

Officers were called just before 6am on Thursday to reports of a man inside a house who was threatening to harm himself.

Specially-trained officers, including police negotiators and medical advisors, remained at the scene throughout the day.

At about 8pm, officers forced their way into the property and a man in his 40s was found injured.

Police and paramedics attempted to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was inside the property.
