Ban proposed on lorries overtaking on the A12

Have you ever been stuck behind two lorries on a dual carriageway as one slowly overtakes the other? It can be pretty frustrating. The idea of banning HGVs from overtaking has already been tried on the A14 and the M11.

Now Essex County Council wants a ban introduced on the A12. But lorry drivers say the idea will be dangerous and could prove expensive. Here's Tom Barton.

TRAFFIC: M25/A12

The Highways Agency are warning drivers that the M25 in Essex is closed anti-clockwise between J27 and J25 due to a serious incident involving a number of heavy goods vehicles.

A signed diversion is in operation with all traffic advised to leave the M25 anti-clockwise at J27 and follow the square diversion symbol via the M11, A406 and A10 to rejoin the M25 anti-clockwise at J25.

A second traffic alert has also been issued for motorists travelling along the A12 towards London, to be warned that there is a broken-down abnormal load vehicle close to J21, Witham.

One lane is closed, queueing traffic and long delays due to broken down lorry on A12 Northbound at Kelvedon in Essex.

It's between J23 B1024 London Road (Kelvedon South) and J24 B1024 (Kelvedon North), congestion to A138 J19 / A130 Colchester Road / B1137 Main Road / Generals Lane (Boreham Interchange). Travel time is around 40 minutes
