An appeal to help pay for the care of Gizmo, the abandoned foal found near death on a roadside in Essex, has exceeded its target after hundreds of people donated.

Four-month-old Gizmo was found in an "emaciated state" near a caravan park in Yeldham Road, Halstead, Essex on 17 February.

The RSPCA launched an appeal to raise £11,000 towards his ongoing care at a specialist equine clinic.

Its campaign has now raised about £13,000 after almost 700 people from all over the world responded.

Ashleigh and Pudsey back Christmas pet campaign

Ashleigh and Pudsey back new welfare campaign

Northamptonshire duo Ashleigh and Pudsey are launching a Christmas appeal highlighting the risks that pets face over the festive period.

They've teamed up with the veterinary group Vets4Pets to try and reduce the number of pets which need treatment over Christmas.

The biggest problems are;

Feeding pets things such as chocolate, raisins, sultanas and currants which are toxic to many animals.

Dogs and cats getting stressed when they can't escape crowds of visitors.

Allowing pets to eat meat containing turkey and chicken bones which can easily splinter and cause internal damage.
