McCarthy's 'pride' for Ipswich players despite play-off loss

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy said he was proud of what his players achieved despite losing their Championship play-off semi-final to East Anglian rivals Norwich City.

A Wes Hoolahan penalty, plus goals from Nathan Redmond and Cameron Jerome ended the Blues' hopes of reaching Wembley. Tommy Smith's equaliser gave them brief hope at Carrow Road.

Christophe Berra saw red after handling on the goal line which led to City's penalty, although McCarthy felt his team should have won a spot kick when Teddy Bishop tumbled in the Norwich box in the first half.

But Norwich ran out 3-1 winners on the day and 4-2 on aggregate, to face Middlesbrough on Bank Holiday Monday.

Delight for Norwich manager Alex Neil after reaching Wembley

Norwich City manager Alex Neil expressed his delight in steering the club to Wembley for the SkyBet Championship Play-Off final after beating East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town.

A second half penalty from Wes Hoolahan gave City the breakthrough after a tight first half. The spot-kick came after Ipswich defender Christophe Berra handled on the line and was sent off.

Despite Tommy Smith's equaliser, the Blues couldn't contain the Canaries as Nathan Redmond and Cameron Jerome struck to seal a 3-1 win on the day and 4-2 on aggregate.
