The movie makers' mill fire that caused uproar in a Norfolk village

The inferno that destroyed Hardingham Mill in Norfolk 50 years ago wasn't as unexpected as you might think.

But that didn't stop it causing plenty of controversy.

The fire was all in aid of the film The Shuttered Room, starring Dame Flora Robson and Oliver Reed.

Fifty years since its release, the movie is getting a special screening in Norwich tonight.

New community cinema for Royston

The official launch of Royston’s new community cinema will take place on Monday 1st July.

It is exactly 100 years since the original Priory Cinema first opened in the Hertfordshire town.

It is hoped that the Royston Picture Palace will encourage more people to stay in Royston rather than travelling to cinemas in Cambridge and Stevenage.

Residents to have their say on site for cinema

A public consultation is underway in Ely to find the location for a new cinema for the city.

Cambridgeshire County Council has outlined four sites which could be suitable for the complex.

The sites being consideration are:

  • Land at Downham Road/A10 - the proposed site of a new leisure village
  • Ely Station gateway area
  • Land near Cambridgeshire Business Park
  • North Ely

The consultation closes on August 6 and ill form part of developing the concepts of the Ely Masterplan which looks at the delivering a prosperous future for the city.
