The official launch of Royston’s new community cinema will take place on Monday 1st July.
It is exactly 100 years since the original Priory Cinema first opened in the Hertfordshire town.
It is hoped that the Royston Picture Palace will encourage more people to stay in Royston rather than travelling to cinemas in Cambridge and Stevenage.
Building work on a new cinema in St Neots has been forced to be put on hold due to a construction error. The Cineworld Cinema Complex was being built almost a metre out of place. Turnstones Estates says it's submitted a new planning application to adjust the building.
A public consultation is underway in Ely to find the location for a new cinema for the city.
Cambridgeshire County Council has outlined four sites which could be suitable for the complex.
The sites being consideration are:
- Land at Downham Road/A10 - the proposed site of a new leisure village
- Ely Station gateway area
- Land near Cambridgeshire Business Park
- North Ely
The consultation closes on August 6 and ill form part of developing the concepts of the Ely Masterplan which looks at the delivering a prosperous future for the city.
