Colchester Borough Council remains with no party in overall control.

The Conservatives did however gain two seats while the Liberal Democrats lost two including that of the council leader Paul Smith.

The council has been effectively hung since 1998 when the Liberal Democrats were last in power.

It is likely that the council will continue to be run by an alliance of Lib Dems, Labour and Independent councillors despite the Conservatives being the biggest party. They are one seat short of an overall majority.
