Driver seriously injured in Corby crash

Road closed for several hours in Corby, Northamptonshire

A driver's been seriously injured in a crash on one of the main roads through Corby, Northamptonshire.

Weldon Road was shut for several hours following the incident just before 4.30pm yesterday afternoon.

The 38-year-old man is being treated in hospital. Police are appealing for witnesses.

Gas tanker crashes on A14

A tanker carrying 4,200 litres of argon gas and 1,000 litres of CO2 has been involved in a crash with two other vehicles on the A14. The accident happened at the Catthorpe junction with the M1 at around 8.40 this morning. Emergency services were called, the road remains closed.

Specialist hazard teams were called, but as the gases are not a danger to the environment they are being allowed to vent naturally.


Appeal for witnesses after two fatal collisions

Police in Essex are appealing for witnesses after two fatal collisions on Friday. A male driver, believed to be in his 30s and from Chelmsford, died after his silver Citroen Xsara was in collision with a silver Volkswagen Caddy just before 6.45pm on the A414 Ongar Road in Writtle.

The female driver of the van suffered serious leg injuries and was taken by ambulance to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford. In the second collision in Buckhurst Hill a motorbike rider in his 20s died at the scene.

His blue Yamaha was in collision with a black Renault Trafic van outside Monkhams public house, at about 9.50pm. A 33-year-old man from Romford was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and released on bail.

Investigation after car crashes into Norwich store

Police in Norwich are investigating after a car crashed into a wall of the city's John Lewis store in earlier this morning.

Officers were called to All Saints Green shortly before 7am following reports of a collision involving a blue BMW 3 Series opposite Mecca Bingo.

The driver failed to stop at the scene and enquiries to locate the motorist are ongoing.

The car was recovered shortly after 8am and the store remains open as normal.

ROAD: A47, Swaffham, Norfolk

Part of the A47 near Swaffham in Norfolk has been closed, after a car crashed into the central reservation of the dual carriageway at 11:50am.

Three fire crews from Swaffham, Great Massingham and Thetford were called as well as paramedics.


Witness appeal after fatal accident

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 47 year old motorcyclist was killed in a crash at Bracon Ash in Norfolk this morning.

It happened at 10 past 10 on the B1113 with the junction of Flordon Road.

All roads that were closed as a result of the accident were re-opened at around 2pm.

Police car crashes on 999 call

A police car on a 999 call has been involved in a crash in Colchester.

It happened at 5.20pm on Saturday evening on London Road near the junction with Trafalgar Road.

The officers were responding to a call about an assault and criminal damage incident.

The driver of the other car, a gold-coloured Rover, was taken to hospital with a slight injury. The police officers were shaken but not harmed.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

A11 crash: One person still in critical condition

One person remains in a critical condition in hospital, and three others are described as "serious but stable" following a crash on the A11 in Thetford Forest.

A coach carrying almost fifty teenagers back home from a school field trip collided with a car yesterday afternoon.

The four passengers in the black Mercedes car were airlifted to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, one has since been transfered to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

Five teenagers on board the coach who were also taken to West Suffolk hospital in Bury St Edmunds with minor injuries, they have since all been discharged. Suffolk Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.

Residents fear fatal crossing accident won't be the last

People living near the level crossing in Norfolk where a car and train collided yesterday say it's only a matter of time before it happens again.

The driver of the Kia car, named locally as Rod Wheeler, was killed as his vehicle crossed the tracks between Littleport and Downham Market on the line from King's Lynn to Kings Cross. Russell Hookey reports
