Ukip's only MP Douglas Carswell has questioned the 'nature and tone' of the party's campaigning following the resignation of its leader Nigel Farage.
Mr Carswell, the MP for Clacton, ruled out standing for the leadership himself.
Politics is an act of bringing of bringing people together, of drawing people together as one, not of dividing people.
If Ukip wants to be the agent for change, it needs to become New-kip. It needs to challenge itself and put a lot of distance between that angry nativist messaging that we saw of lot of during the referendum.
It's a very toxic, destructive counter-productive card to play and it's cynical.
Mr Carswell said credit was due to Mr Farage and others for campaigning for twenty years to get the EU referendum in the first place but added that it was no secret that that had fundamental differences about how to win votes.

A Tory backbencher chased down and detained an alleged shoplifter in his Essex constituency.
Douglas Carswell said he saw the man running down Pier Avenue in Clacton with items falling out of his pockets and store detectives in pursuit.
After outpacing the suspect and pinning him against a wall, he told him: "You probably don't want to hear this, but I'm your local MP."
Mr Carswell, who runs daily to keep fit, said he took action after seeing the man, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, apparently trying to make his escape.
The MP joked that he was tempted to take a 'selfie' photograph after capturing the individual, but decided just to put the news on Twitter instead.
He said when the police arrived they thanked him for his efforts, and took the suspect away.
