Apple harvest hit by spring rain

Apple growers say this autumn's harvest is likely to be one of the worst for several years.

The cold and wet spring meant there weren't enough bees and insects to pollinate the trees, with the result that yields are well down on normal years.

Early varieties have been worst hit, with later fruiting apples such as Bramleys and Russets coping better with the cool conditions.
