700 horses and riders are preparing for the start of the EQ Life Houghton International Horse Trials, which run from 22nd-25th May.
The finishing touches are being put to the cross country courses, stables are being erected and arenas strung for the event in the grounds of Houghton Hall in Norfolk.
The organisers of the Burnham Market Horse Trials in Norfolk say this weekend's event attracted record crowds. Gate numbers were up over 15% on previous years.
Not only did visitors enjoy top level sport, with riders from 22 countries and many Badminton Horse Trials bound combinations having a last run, there was also a wide range of trade stands and children's entertainment.
Event Organiser Alec Lochore said;
"It was great to see so many people both watching the action and shopping in the tradestands. Several competitors remarked to me how much they enjoyed riding in front of such enthusiastic spectators."
Oliver Townend won in two classes, one of them on Armada, his ride at Badminton Horse Trials in two weeks time. He commented;
"I always enjoy Burnham Market. It's a perfect event to set the horses up for the rest of the season. It also seems to be a lucky event for me, which makes it even more enjoyable." **
**Oliver has now won the Three Star at Burnham Market an impressive seven times.
