Police and fire officers are investigating the cause of an 'explosion' in a Norfolk village which sent flames shooting 15 feet into the air.

The blast happened under the pavement close to the Stratton Motors garage in Long Stratton 10 miles to the south of Norwich.

The incident has closed the busy A140 road between Norwich and Ipswich causing traffic congestion in the area.

Arrest following Long Stratton incident

A man has been arrested following an incident at a property in Long Stratton.

Police were called to Depwade Court at 11am on Friday to reports to reports of concern for a man inside, who was refusing to leave the premises.

An operation, involving trained police negotiators, brought the matter to a safe conclusion at 1pm on Saturday 11th August when a 65-year-old man left the property voluntarily and was arrested for a public order offence. He remains in police custody.
