Louis Smith at Palace to get his MBE

Stars of last summer's Olympics and Paralympics are among those receiving honours at Buckingham Palace today.

Gymnast Louis Smith from Peterborough, who scooped silver on the pommel horse and a bronze in the men's team competition at the London Games, has described being awarded the MBE the proudest moment of his life. Smith went on to win BBC dance series Strictly Come Dancing following the Olympics.

After over 8 years of trying, Huntingdon Gymnastics Club has announced that it will start building its new hall in the coming weeks. The Club, home to Olympian and Strictly Come Dancing winner, Louis Smith, first conceived plans for expansion before the Beijing Olympic Games.

Now, thanks to a grant of over two hundred thousand pounds from British Gymnastics, and a further fifty thousand pounds from the Freemen of Huntingdon, the Club is able to move forward and build a smaller community gymnastics hall.

Peterborough's Louis Smith has been crowned this year's Strictly Come Dancing champion.

The 23-year-old gymnast danced a winning Charleston with partner Flavia Cacace, beating other finalists Dani Harmer, Denise Van Outen and Kimberly Walsh.

In the summer Smith, who was the youngest competitor in this year's Strictly show, won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in London.

Olympic hero Louis Smith, is supporting Cambridgeshire Constabulary's drink drive campaign.

The Silver medallist from Peterborough says he wants to appeal to people, especially in the local area, to think before getting in their cars after enjoying a Christmas drink.

Olympic silver medallist Louis Smith will be switching on the Christmas lights at a shopping centre in his home city of Peterborough tonight.

The Strictly Come Dancing star was chosen to light up the Serpentine Green shopping centre in Hampton after shoppers were asked via Facebook who they would like to do this year's switch on.
