The Conservatives have dismissed rumours that former England Test Captain, Andrew Strauss, might stand to replace Louise Mensch as Corby MP.

The cricketer announced his retirement from the sport yesterday, on the same day the former Tory MP stood down, sparking an internet rumour that he might be about to enter a career in politics.

A Conservative source said they are "not aware of any truth in it."

Strauss is to be replaced as test captain by Essex batsman Alastair Cook.
