Eighteen people have been arrested during morning raids as police clamp down on metal theft in Essex.
In a joint operation with British Transport Police, officers from the Kent & Essex Serious Crime Directorate executed search warrants at nine scrap metal yards across the county including Witham, Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend.
As well as recovering a quantity of items, including stolen property officers have so far arrested 18 people in connection with theft and the handling of stolen property.
