A man who raped a churchgoer at knifepoint in Stotfold, Bedfordshire more than 20-years-ago has been jailed. Forty-one-year-old Daniel Borgers was jailed by Luton Crown Court for the attack in October 1992.
Borgers was arrested last year after a DNA sample he gave following an arrest for a minor offence matched one on the national database which had been taken from the rape scene. Borgers, who now lives in Scarborough, was jailed for seven and a half years.
A man has appeared before magistrates charged with raping a woman nearly 20 years ago.
Daniel Borgers, 41, appeared at Luton Magistrates' Court charged with rape under the 1956 Sexual Offences Act.
Borgers is suspected of raping a woman in Stotfold in October 1992.
Borgers, who used to live in Stotfold, was arrested by North Yorkshire Police on behalf of the Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire Major Crime Unit (BHCMCU) in Scarborough on Sunday.
The case has been worked on for a number of years by the unit's cold case team.
Borgers, of Napier Crescent, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, was remanded to appear at Luton Crown Court on August 28.
A man has been arrested by police investigating the rape of a woman in Bedfordshire in the nineties.
A woman was violently attacked while on her way home from the local church in October 1992.
The man was arrested in Scarborough yesterday and is being questioned at Greyfriars Police Station in Bedford.

It is possible that someone saw two people loitering outside the shop during the evening but as yet haven’t realised what they saw may help this inquiry. A 21 year old man was arrested by officers shortly after the incident.
