Suspect in Weybread murder case appealing extradition to the UK

A 42-year-old man arrested in Luxembourg in connection with the murder of Peter and Sylvia Stuart from Suffolk is appealing his extradition to the UK.

The body of Peter Stuart, from Weybread, was found in woodland close to his home soon after he and his wife were reported missing last month.

Sylvia Stuart has yet to be found.

Ali Qazimaj from Tilbury in Essex, was located and detained in Luxembourg in June.

Officials now have 20 days to decide whether to uphold the decision to extradite him.

Suffolk Police say they're continuing to try and locate Sylvia Stuart and are asking anyone with information get in contact.

'Significant' update expected on Weybread murder investigation

A "significant update" on the investigation into the murder of Peter Stuart and the disappearance of his wife Sylvia from Suffolk is to be given at a conference this afternoon.

Peter Stuart's body was discovered near his home in Weybread. His wife Sylvia is still missing.

Detectives are continuing to work with colleagues in Europe to trace the lead supsect, Ali Qazimaj.

The conference is due to be held by Suffolk Police at 3pm.

Suffolk Police have officially confirmed they've launched a murder investigation into the disappearance of a pensioner who went missing from her home in Weybread in Suffolk more than two weeks ago.

Police have widened the hunt for Sylvia Stuart, carrying out searches on roads between Suffolk and Essex.

Sylvia's husband Peter was found stabbed to death in woodland near their home in Mill Lane on Friday June the 3rd.

Detectives are continuing to work with colleagues in Europe to trace the lead supsect, Ali Qazimaj.

He is a suspect in a murder investigation in which someone was repeatedly stabbed - we have to assume he may be dangerous. We have no way of knowing if he is armed.

We know that he was living in Tilbury in Essex and that he has been working in Purfleet as a forklift driver.

Searches will be carried out between Suffolk and Essex in a continuing bid to find missing pensioner Sylvia Stuart.

Sylvia and Peter Stuart, aged 69 and 75, were reported missing on Friday 3 June.

Mr Stuart's body was found in a woodland near their home in Weybread, Suffolk. He died from multiple stab wounds.

Police will be searching areas between Weybread and the Tilbury area over the next few days.

After carrying out work in the vicinity of the couple’s Weybread home, and at other locations linked to the enquiry, we are now expanding the search for Sylvia between Suffolk and Essex.

While search officers in Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire have been working together in the UK, we’re also continuing to work with international law enforcement on the hunt for Ali Qazimaj.

Detectives are trying to trace Ali Qazimaj, 42, who has also previously used the alias of Marco Costa, and who had been living in the Tilbury area of Essex.

He is known to have left the UK from Dover on Saturday 4 June.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Suffolk Police.

Images of a car used by a man suspected of murder before he fled to France have been released by Suffolk Police.

Peter Stuart's body was discovered near his home in Weybread on the Norfolk-Suffolk border. His wife Sylvia is still missing - police fear she may also be dead.

Ali Qasmimaj, 42, is wanted in connection with the crimes. He is also known to use the name Marco Costa.

Detectives are currently liasing with international law enforcement agencies, believing he abandoned the car in Dover before boarding a ferry to France on-foot.

Kent Police found the vehicle in Athol Terrace around midnight on Sunday 5 into Monday 6 June.

A man suspected of killing a pensioner could be using the alias 'Marco Costa', police have learned.

Ali Qazimaj, 42, is on the run after officers discovered the body of Peter Stuart, 75, in woods near his home in Weybread, Suffolk. He had been stabbed to death.

Peter's wife Sylvia Stuart is still missing - police say they believe she has been a 'victim of crime'.

Detectives are encouraging anyone with information that may help the investigation to contact them.
