A1(M) closed for three junctions after serious collision

Police have closed a section of the A1(M) southbound in Hertfordshire after a serious collision near Welwyn Garden City.

The emergency services are at the scene, and traffic is being diverted between junction six for Welwyn, and junction four for Hatfield. The incident is causing severe congestion, and fire crews are asking drivers to avoid the area.

The Highways Agency advises those heading from the north down to London use the A14 eastbound and the M11 southbound instead.
