London Midland which operates trains through Northampton and Milton Keynes says nearly 4,500 extra seats will be available for commuters by 2014.
The company says more trains will be run in peak hours by increasing their maxiumum speed from 100 miles per hour to 110.
Journey times bewteen London and Northampton will drop by ten minutes and from Milton Keynes to the capital by seven minutes. It's one of the most intensively used lines in Europe.
