Flying tonight: Air Ambulance to offer 24hr service

The East Anglian Air Ambulance will soon be flying through the night as well as during the day.

The distinctive yellow helicopter flies 365 days a year and covers Norfolk and Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire.

Anglia One based at Norwich Airport and Anglia Two at Cambridge are both crewed by a doctor and critical care paramedic

The East Anglian air ambulance already has to raise £4.5 milllion a year to keep both helicopters in the sky. They will now have to raise £6 million to cover the night time flying.

The new helicopter will look the same - it's an EC135T2 - and will be equipped with night vision goggles and power cable warning system. It will start flying from Cambridge airport from the end of August.
