There are more independent breweries in the region than ever, new research has revealed.

The number of breweries in the UK has topped 1,000, the highest figure for over 70 years, according to the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra).

The figures have been revealed in the latest edition of the group's Good Beer Guide.

More than 1,000 new pubs are featured in the 2013 Guide, which marks Camra's 40th anniversary, taking the total to 4,500.

The Queen's Head, Newton, Cambridgeshire is one of seven pubs which have appeared in every edition of the guide.
