RAF helicopter in sea rescue

An RAF Seaking rescue helicopter was sent out by the Coastguard in Essex on Wednesday evening to help find a boat that had run aground.

A 20ft motor boat with three people on board was heading from Canvey Island to Harwich when the incident happened.

The helicopter located the boat on the Foulness Sands and offered to winch the three men to shore, which they declined.

The Coastguard gave them safety advice, but they insisted remaining onboard and continuing their passage once refloated, albeit without having any charts, VHF radio or flares onboard.
