A coin found by a mum and daughter on a footpath in Peterborough has been identified as a silver hammer struck sixpence dating from 1575.

13-year-old Charlene Moles picked up the coin after mum Amanda had kicked it thinking it was a bottle top. It appears to have been brought to the surface by engineers laying fibre optic cables nearby.
