Tot sleeps through car theft

A car thief in Essex stole a car with a sleeping toddler inside.

The two-year-old boy was asleep when his mother parked her silver Land Rover Freelander in Kents Hill Road North, Benfleet,to deliver a package and left the engine running.

A man jumped into it and drove off.

The car was recovered shortly later in nearby Barncombe Close with the child still asleep.

The suspect fled and was not found despite Essex Police scrambling a search helicopter.

He was described as white, in his early 20s, and wearing a black top with a light blue hood and dark trousers.

The suspect laughed at the victim before jumping in the vehicle and driving off.'
