Norovirus could ruin Christmas for thousands

The winter vomiting bug Norovirus is threatening to ruin Christmas for thousands of people as the number of cases continues to soar. The number of people affected is 83 per cent higher than this time last year due to an early outbreak of the virus.

In the last week two wards had to be closed in Southend, and two at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage. There were also ward closures in Welwyn, Peterborough and King's Lynn, while two other hospitals in Norfolk were affected but suffered no closures.
