Essex Police is one of a number of forces who are having to take patients to hospital instead of ambulance crews.

An Essex Police Federation spokesman said officers have to take patients to hospital nearly every day due to ambulances being unable to respond to accident scenes.

They blamed public service cuts for the delays . The East of England Ambulance service says response times are based on the seriousness of the incident with non-emergencies given longer waiting times.
