A Government grant of £1.3m is to be spent on improving homes in Jaywick by bringing empty properties back into use.
The money will be used to revamp properties which have been empty for a year or more.
Paul Honeywood from Tendring District Council said: "This pot of money was brought forward last October and I have been looking for innovative ways to use it to help regenerate Jaywick," he said.
"It needs to be spent wisely and in a way that will make the most difference to the community."
The Government put £60 million up for grabs in March 2012 and Tendring was one of 20 councils to receive funding.
It was available to those who had clusters of more than 100 empty homes and properties had to be vacant for at least a year to qualify for assistance.
