Schools' holocaust work commended

Five Essex schools were highly commended at the first Dora Love Prize evening during Holocaust Memorial Week at the University of Essex.

Schools from across Essex and Suffolk were invited to take part in the competition which was set up to continue the work of Holocaust survivor Dora Love.

Among the nine highly commended projects were entries from Colne Community School, Brightlingsea; Maltings Academy, Witham; Plume School, Maldon; St Bernard’s High School, Westcliff-on-Sea and Tendring Technology School.

The overall winner was Farlingaye High School in Woodbridge for their project "More Than Just a Number". The project included assemblies with every year group and the selling of wristbands with a number referring to a Holocaust victim who could be researched on the school intranet.
