Plans have been approved for a new theatre in the centre of Bedford.

Bedford School has been given planning permission to convert St. Luke's Church on St. Peters Street into a 300-seater venue.

The plans include a rehearsal space, offices and a landscaped garden.

The school is now trying to raise funds for the work.

Bedford School’s Head Master, John Moule, said: “I’m thrilled that the School will be ableto create a new theatre for Bedford.

"St Luke's represents a unique chance to provide an outstanding facility that not only encourages Performing Arts in the School and the locality but also provides a visual and practical demonstration of the importance of the relationship between town and school. It is a hugely exciting project."
