Scientists working for the Cambridge-based British Antarctic Survey now have a new hi-tech base to carry out their research.

The new Halley VI station cost £26 million and was built over four Antarctic summers. on the floating Brunt ice shelf.

The special design allows the building to be raised or lowered depending on the amount of snow fall and to be moved if needed. Researchers will use the base for a number of projects including climate change research.
