A third of England’s hospitals have been completely full at some point this year, a new report has found. Several hospitals in the East were running at close to full capacity in January.

Three of the region's hospitals were so full last month they had virtually no beds available.

According to a new report, the average occupancy rate for hospitals across the country was 95 per cent.

In January, Ipswich hospital did not have a single bed available for 21 days. At the James Paget in Great Yarmouth there were no beds available for 18 days and at Northampton hospital they were at full capacity for 13 days.
