Charity trustee becomes national ambassador

A trustee from an Essex-based charity is one of 60 ambassadors who have been appointed across the country to put the hidden issue of caring on the map.

The volunteers have been chosen by Carers Trust, which formed last year from The Princess Royal Trust For Carers and Crossroads Care.

Tom Standford, a trustee of Action For Family Carers, based in Maldon, is one of those taking on the new role.

Carers Trust is set to benefit from The Co-operative's staff, members and customers raising an estimated £5 million for the charity in 2013.

The money will be used to tackle feelings of isolation and provide breaks, information, advice and support for unpaid young adult carers.

There are an estimated seven million carers in the UK of which nearly 500,000 are young adult carers.
