Thousands of new jobs are being promised as key cities in the region are offered sweeping new powers to boost growth. Historically central government has jealously guarded its own spending powers.
Now though, the new City Deals initiative aims to change that by passing budgetary decisions to local authorities including here in the East.
Cambridge, Milton Keynes, Ipswich, Norwich and Southend are all on the list of 20 cities nationwide.
