Council reaction to 800 job losses in Harlow
Tesco has announced it will close its distribution centre in Harlow with the loss of 800 jobs. The supermarket says its hopes to re-deploy the staff elsewhere.
Harlow Council's Tony Durcan said they were not expected the news as Tesco had been giving "reassurance" that the depot was safe in the company's re-organisation.

Tesco is opening two new distribution centres in Reading and Dagenham to create 1,900 jobs in total. The supermarket chain is closing distribution centres in Harlow, Weybridge, and Chesterfield.
Weybridge currently employs approximately 650
Harlow currently employs approximately 800
Chesterfield currently employs approximately 400
