IPCC holding "rigorous inquiry" into jetty death

The police watchdog has told the family of a man who died after falling from a jetty in Essex while being escorted by police that it will hold a "rigorous inquiry" into his death.

Steven Bore was arrested for not paying council tax at a houseboat in Canvey Island on February 17.

As the officers were escorting him from the boat in Smallgains Marina he fell from the jetty onto an embankment. Mr Bore was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Staff from the Independent Police Complaints Commission have met his family to talk about their investigation.

IPCC commissioner Mary Cunneen said: "We will conduct a rigorous inquiry to examine the actions of the police officers... including why officers executed the warrant at midnight, their interaction with Mr Bore, how they escorted him along the jetty and what they did after he fell."
